Farmhouse Master Bedroom Reveal - One Room Challenge

Its reveal day! I'm typing this late at night because we cut it pretty darn close on this one!

Even though this challenge was a 6 week challenge, we did most of the work over a period of 6 days. Approximately 1 day a week. I tell you this, not to brag or complain, but because I want you to see how doable a room makeover is, even when you don't have weeks and weeks to work on it!

I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking, but I do want to refresh your memory on where our room started. Keep in mind this room is the "master" at whopping 10x12.

We removed the carpet and stripped the floors before we moved in. Full disclosure? They're still unfinished. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do, so I left them for now. The addition of a rug is enough to make the room feel finished.

My original design board ended up being pretty accurate other than I switched the rug out.

Other things on the list included switching out the fan for a new light, adding trim work and painting the whole room.

Okay, now the pretty pictures!!

As you enter the room, the first thing you see is my wardrobe (and yes it really is my closet!) and a full length mirror that my dad built for me.

A plant and a vintage crock help with the awkward layout of the room. I kept artwork minimal, instead allowing the trim work to add texture and interest.

I debated on what to do with the wall next to the closet. We talked about a barn door at one point, but instead we painted the door the same color as the rest of the room - BM Simply White (mixed in Glidden Diamond). The cow skull was a gift from my grandpa and the inspiration behind my blog logo. Its one of my favorite things ever.

That's right, the whole room is Simply White (flat finish!)...walls, trim, and ceiling. Its amazing how much it brightens the room and because we chose a flat finish it helps minimize all the imperfections in our plaster walls.

I love our room!

Our last master bedroom (it's so different!)  had many of the same elements, but this version is so much more us. It gives me a little taste of what the rest of the farmhouse can look like with with a lot of elbow grease. I can't even explain how excited I am to tackle another room! This room also gives me confidence in my design decisions. I am really good at getting the foundation of a room to look good, but this is the first room that I feel like my vision and the outcome matched perfectly! I am learning where to invest my money and where to take advantage of my love of vintage and antiques. We still have a few things to add and change, but for now, this room is a breathe of fresh air in a house that still needs a TON of work!

What do you think?
Also, I am happy to answer any questions you might have! I'm sure I missed some crucial detail.

Oh, and be sure to head over to Calling it Home to see the reveals from the other 200+ bloggers! Amazing stuff and I am honored to have my little room linked up among them! Also, a BIG thank you to Linda for hosting such an awesome event!

Details and To Do's - One Room Challenge Spring 2015

We're in the homestretch!! The final inning! The 4th Quarter! Whatever you want to call it, it means in one week we'll all be revealing our rooms and honestly I'm kinda freaking out.

This week whizzed by for me...I'm completely exhausted from the challenge and show prep (see the end of post for explanation!)  and still have gobs left to do.

Thankfully, its all about putting pretty things in place now....oh, and we (still!) need to install baseboards.

The painting is done and I'm super excited because it was the last big room that needed painting in the whole house!

paint. all. the. things. - One Room Challenge Spring 2015

Wow.

Where does the week go!?

I'm doing my best to stay on track with this room, which means each day I try and tackle a little something.

Currently the state of our room is a bit sad...

Just screams "Pin Me!" doesn't it! Oh, goodness, clearly I need to rethink keeping that fan. Its terribly boring, but oh so useful during hot Idaho summers!

Fabric Design - One Room Challenge Spring 2015

How are you hanging in there?

Halfway through the ORC and I'm feeling the pressure! I knew I would be since we had some prior commitments that took us away from the house over the weekend (aka, I got diddly squat done on the actual room) but I still have something SUPER exciting to share with you today!

Back at the new year I made a promise to myself - not necessarily a resolution, but more of a goal list of sorts - to do the things that I have been talking about for soooooooooooooooo long, but never following through on.

We all do that right?

Welp, I decided that 2015 was the year to start doing.

One of the things on my list was to design a fabric line based on my blog and Etsy shop.

Say, what!?

Yup!

I took some drawings and designs that I have been working on - you will notice that they have been or are being used as part of my blog header as well -  and turned them into fabric designs!

Get where I'm going with this?

I will be sewing up my own accent pillow for the bedroom!

Pretty cool, right!??? I can't even explain how excited I am!

Let's look at my design board from week one of the ORC again... if you remember I said I was planning on incorporating my own art in a unique way. Well, do you see that cow sketch below? Its the one I picked to be used on my pillow!

The Rug - One Room Challenge Spring 2015

Eh, em... someone pinch me, please.

I'm still riding on a high from finding the absolute most perfect thing for our master bedroom makeover ever. Well, maybe its not quite as amazing as the time I found the old doors we used for our headboard, but definitely a really close second!

There's a story, but first lets look back at last week when I shared my bedroom befores & design plan.

Here's the board again...

Do you see that colorful rug?

One Room Challenge -Vintage Rustic Entryway- REVEAL!!

Today's the day!

The big reveal of my One Room Challenge Rustic Vintage Entryway! (put on by the wonderful Linda at Calling It Home).

I chose to tackle my dark, dreary, entryway. It was a whole lot of dark trim, bad tile and dark paint (plus weird ceiling texture...)

before...
Then I came up with a plan...
My vision almost didn't happen (still didn't 100%), but some how I managed to pull it off  with the my husband's encouragement and late night door hanging, my mom's design eye and especially my dad's woodworking skills!

Now, here's what we ended up with...
#heyjack, says come on in!
Right off, you may notice, no rodeo poster. Whomp whomp! Our rodeo poster ended up not fitting, but my favorite cow art does a fine job standing in.

We have a decently wide entry, that could accommodate a bench and my vintage wood locker.
I love the look of built-ins, but didn't necessarily want them here. I think I achieved the feeling of built ins, but I get to take this all with me if we ever move (which we will, someday...) Also, even tho the entry is wide, it is incredibly awkward to take photos of thanks to the half wall/opening that casts awesome shadows all over the place. I did my best, but I'm not sure these photos can totally capture how this space feels.

My dad came through in the last minute and built me an AMAZING reclaimed wood bench. Literally, he built it Tuesday night during the 2 hours it took me to workout and vote! I still need to give it a light sanding, but I'm in LOVE with it!!! Its the star of the entry and the one thing that completely makes the space! Plus, how sweet is my dad for making my dreams come true!!

Its exactly what I wanted for the space! I didn't think there was anyway I (or my husband) would have time to build a bench, so I had a plan B ready to go, but I'm so grateful I get the bench instead! It could have come from a Restoration Hardware catalog, don'tcha think!?

The other star of the entryway is my vintage wood locker that I nabbed for $5 at a yard sale over the summer! I gave it a fresh coat of Be Junk Chic paint in Caribbean (more on that later!)  and coat of wipe on poly for durability. Perfect for ALL. THE. SHOES.

I also HEART the metal letters that represent my husband and I....awwwwwwwwww....

The hooks and a reclaimed fence board are beautiful and functional! (shhh...don't tell anyone, but there is only 1 screw holding this puppy up...)

The globe, cattle bell and lantern are fun decor and the metal bin provides hidden storage for winter gear.

The locker couldn't be pushed all the way into the corner because of how the door opens, but the dead space ended up the perfect spot for my ladder. I like that it kind of looks like a natural space to keep a ladder and a lantern.

I love my elk hide rug, but I have my eye out for something a bit larger and more colorful down the road.

We didn't complete the whole hallway like I planned. We still have doors to hang (need new hardware) but I did hang one door so you get the idea.

Anyone got good tips for getting sticky glue residue off of glass? We removed some rice paper looking window film and the leftover gunk isn't budging. We need to clean it and do some type of etched glass instead. That's why I won't be showing a full on shot of my closet - no one wants to see my vacuum!

Anyways, there she be! I love love love how it turned out!

What do you think?

Here's a refresher on the before...

and after...

I will do a complete source list next week, but if you have any questions in the mean time, feel free to comment below!
