I thought today I would walk through what we have done in the kitchen and what's left to do.
I'm probably doing this more for my own knowledge (and motivation) than anything else, because lets be honest....this is taking forever......
So here is where we started:
All in all not a terrible layout, but the cabinets were in rough shape, the counters and back splash were pretty boring, the ceilings looked like someone sponge painted them and in general the whole room felt dark.
The first thing we did was update the shades on the lights... it was a small change and easy on the budget.
To install our sink we had to demo the back splash and build new concrete countertops...
That brings us to were we are now...
Half the kitchen looks okay...cabinets are painted, but I still have to touch up the wall and ceilings where there is over spray. We also haven't started the back splash.
Wanna know why?
Cause the other side of the kitchen looks like this...
Yea.
That would be the old laminate counters (with paint all over them to boot!) and the back splash hasn't even been demoed yet!
The plan is to tile from the floor up to at least as high as the back splash goes now, but that will depend on if I find a way to add some storage to that big blank wall. Its pretty narrow so I'm still trying to work out what will work. Our original plan was to pour concrete like the other side of the kitchen, but we both feel that the kitchen is lacking warmth, so I think we will try and build a wood counter from reclaimed wood. Justin did a practice piece the other day and its freaking beautiful, so stay tuned on that!!!
So that's were we are at... a half finished kitchen.
Here's what's left to do on our Kitchen to do list:
- replace tile floor??
- new blinds
- new stools
- add shelving to island wall
- touch up wall paint
Getting there in teeny tiny baby steps!
What would you do with the wall by the stove?
