DIY Platform Bed & Salvaged Door Headboard

I revealed our new custom DIY bed and I am getting such wonderful feedback from you all! Your totally making mine and my hubby's day!

Today I want to talk to you about how we hung the salvaged door headboard (if you remember we pulled these from a burn pile!)

Here's what we used to hang our doors:

Supplies:
1 2x4
Screws
Old doors

Step 1:
We measured center between the two windows and figured out the height we wanted our doors at.

Step 2:
We cut a 2 x 4 to slightly smaller than the width of the doors. Then cut a  French Cleat. Basically, we took a 2 x 4 and cut it lengthwise on an angle. We then attached one half to the wall. We screwed it to the wall on center to hold it in place and then placed a screw at every stud for maximum strength.

Step 3:
We then attached the other half of the French Cleat to the doors. We used screws to attach it to the door. In this case we cut our 2 x 4 in half to fit each door.

Step 4:
We then took each door and hung it on the cleat attached to the wall.

The angles met up perfectly and we had two doors securely hung on the wall!

Ta dah!

They are totally secure and yet easy to take down when we are ready to paint -we are really great at doing things completely out of order and back-ass-wards, aren't we!?

What can I say, its all about priorities...

Bed for the win!

Once we had the doors up, we were able to slide our bed up to the doors.
Having the headboard separate from the platform makes everything super sturdy and there is absolutely no movement on the doors or platform anymore!

Phew!

Next week I will be sharing how we made the platform part of the bed (and by "we" I mean my husband, of course!)

I also have a little surprise in store for you then...you're going to LOVE it!!!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
I will do my best to answer them!
