Practically FREE Office Desk {part 2}

Its time! You all have been waiting so patiently...I realized I was super nervous about showing you this whole project. Maybe slightly afraid of being judged...worried that what I did wasn't blog worthy. Should I restyle this, or rearrange that...
Then the other day I had an ah ha moment and I realized...
#1 some people will like it and some people won't
and
#2 this may not be magazine worthy, the shelves might not be styled just so, but its real life people!
This is how our family lives and I am pretty darn pleased with what we did!

As you enter from hallway.
A collection of boxes that store photos and a piece of ladder that I haven't decided a use for yet and a wire basket holds magazines.

The old bookshelf was built by my husband's grandpa and holds as many books as I could fit!
( I thank my mom for my book hoarding tendencies)
I found the big frame for free and added the chicken wire to display cards, invitations and pics of my cute little nieces and nephews.

This section of desk serves many uses.
Right now it is acting as a mini plant nursery, but it is also where I can set up my sewing machine or can paint signs. The big black box hides office clutter-bills and such.

I made over two dining chairs to act as office chairs.
You can see them HERE

We added wall shelves made out of the same wood we used on the top of the desk.
Shelf brackets are from Home Depot.
(we clearly still do not have enough space for all of our books!)

A little chalk paint and some heavy distressing transformed an ugly metal filing cabinet(which for some reason I am horrible about using...I guess I wouldn't make a good office manager!)

For the hutch top we used a shoe rack that I picked up at a yard sale for $5
(can you believe the lady had it in her sale, and it took me several stops before she actually sold it to me...why have it out if you aren't sure you are going to sell it...or maybe it was the price I was willing to pay that she didn't like...who knows..in the end it was me who ended up with it!)
The hutch color: Marshmallow
(from who knows where...pretty sure its the trim paint on our house.
It was white and FREE that's all I cared about!)

I reused many of my own baskets, tins and wood boxes for storage. I wanted to give all the storage a unifying look with a pop of color, but since we used the green on the wall I wasn't sure what went with it. I figured black was a safe bet until I get brave enough to try something different. If a wood box was newer it got a coat of vinegar stain. I still plan on painting labels on all the tins so my husband will know whats in them.

I gave some curtain rod brackets a coat of chalk paint too.
I still need to get a bigger rod for them, but it acts as a handy storage for rolls of paper and string!
Some day I will find an old wall mounted paper dispenser...

I love using old boxes and mason jars to corral my craft supplies...scissors anyone?

My favorite part...
The bottom half of the hutch stores my sewing machine, fabrics, a giant roll of burlap(my future curtains!), camera equipment and misc other craft/paper supplies. Wine boxes hide gift bags and random electronics.

So big transformation, huh! Shall we compare the before & after??

From sad little room with ugly border...
border people...really? You can see the whole before process HERE

to this!

I happen to think its pretty swell!
A whole office makeover on a teeny tiny itty bitty budget!
So glad I got to share this with you!
and a big huge THANK YOU to my wonderful hubby on his amazing desk build!!
