Mid Century Credenza {before & after}

By golly, I'm blogging today and I have a cute little makeover to show you!
I found this credenza at a church yard sale for $7 way back at the beginning of yard sale season.
Happy dance!!

Before, close up detail

I absolutely love the the mid century lines of it and the groves on the door help tie it in with our cottage/western decor.

I gave the piece a light sanding (which was actually a mistake in the end...) and a fresh coat of paint. I wanted to stain it, but the thin veneer wasn't sanding well and so paint was my best option. I also knew this would be going in my office which already has my vintage army desk and I wanted it to coordinate.

White with natural legs

I used a white semi-gloss and rolled it on with a foam roller. It took a MILLION coats because there was significant tannin bleed through from the plywood. If I hadn't sanded and just primed, it probably would've only taken one or two coats of paint.

I chose to leave the legs for now. Frankly, I can't decide if I like the wood or if they should be white or maybe a mint. My husband even suggested painting them oil-rubbed bronze. The caps are brass and I think I should keep them, but I have mostly stainless steel or chrome in the office and I'm worried it might clash. I know some people are all about the brass, but I'm not sold on it.

So for now I'm waiting to see how the rest of the office comes together before I commit. The legs jut screw off so its any easy fix.

I have commitment issues sometimes.
Clearly.

It's looking very West Elm right now,...don'tcha think?

It i going to make a great TV stand and storage for my craft supplies! I will show you how its fitting in the newly painted office later this week!
