We love love love cooking with fresh herbs around here! My favorite thing to do is snip the little leaves right from the plants as I'm throwing a meal together. Another love of mine is mason jars...yes, I even have a Pinterest board just for mason jar ideas...so combining the two things seemed only natural. My hubby was the one who came up with the idea to make mini chalkboards to use as the labels(he's so crafty!)..I know, I'm a lucky girl!
Here's what you'll need to put a mason jar herb garden together...
(oh...and dirt!)
Step One.
(see the end of post for where to buy chalkboard labels!)
Step Two.
Step Three.
Step Four.
Step Five.
(follow package instructions for correct planting depths!)
Step Six.
Step 6 is by far the hardest!!!!
I'm impatiently waiting for my little baby plants to mature!
Don't you think this would be a great gift for Mother's Day?
Definitely a great project to do with the kids!

Such a cute idea!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic idea! Do you have your seeds started under lights? If so, I'm doing that too this year! (For the first time ever). Your sprouts look great!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We didn't start ours with lights, just in front of a big south facing window! It's warm and sunny and everything seems to love it!
DeleteWe DID NOT use lights...darn auto correct.
DeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteDon't you need drainage for the water to go out? Or are they deep enough that it is ok?
ReplyDeleteHaving drainage is ideal, I probably could have filled the bottom 1/4 of the jar with pebbles, but I just watch how much I water the. Also dont forget to then the new sprouts so you have just one or maybe two plants per jar.
DeleteOnce the plants roots reach the bottom of the jar, itll need to be moved to a larger container.
DeleteThis is such a cute idea - I LOVE the little tags that you added on, way nicer than just boring old labels.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
